UNCHANGING CHANGES (2024)

Unchanging Changes (2024) draws inspiration from the Chinese artist Ding Yi’s abstract painting Appearance of Crosses and serves as an exploration within my research on the translation of visual abstraction into music. 

Unchanging Changes (piano trio) was released on the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Composition Department PhD Showcase CD by Birmingham Record Company and performed by Timothy Lines (Clarinet), Rose Redgrave (Viola), and David Quigley (Piano) at The Lab, Royal Birmingham Conservatoire on 2nd May. 

CIRCLES (2024)

Circles (2024) is a percussion trio piece inspired by Chinese artist Yu Youhan’s Circle Series (2004) and the underlying East Asian philosophy of Daoism. ​

Circles was premiered in BCU open day in December 2024, TREPIDATION - New Music for Percussion in The Bradshaw Hall in Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in December 2024.

KALEIDOSCOPE (2023)

We are like mayflies wandering through this terrestrial world, or grains of millet drifting across a deep blue ocean.

Ethereal (2022) is written for minimalist music.

Kaleidoscope (for marimba, xylophone and vibraphone) was premiered by Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Percussion Department in December 2023. Conducted by Toby Kearney.

THE LIGHTHOUSE (2023)

The Lighthouse (2023) was premiered by Quatuor Bozzini in the Jazz Club at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in January 2024.

I Saw the Wind Drift Over the Mountain Peak (2024) is inspired by GUO Le’s English Red and Chinese Rouge, an abstract painting of fluid, interwoven reds.
