Hydrangea takes its inspiration from the flower's ability to transform colour through interaction with its soil while maintaining its essential nature. The piece explores this tension between transformation and identity through harmonic shifts underpinned by a recurring melodic cell that migrates between instrumental families, constantly recontextualised yet recognisable. The hydrangea's quiet resilience carries additional meaning: blooming boldly regardless of conditions, it speaks to the persistence required to claim one's place as artist. I hope women composers' names will remain where they belong - in the composer credit, not the acknowledgements.
